Building AI
for Africa,
by Africans
We're a collective of data scientists, engineers, and strategists on a mission to democratize machine learning and data engineering across the continent. Our work is rooted in local context, ethical practice, and long-term impact.
Our story
Analytics for Impact Africa was founded in 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya, by a group of friends who shared a frustration: too many data solutions for Africa were built elsewhere, without understanding local realities. We believed that African data scientists and engineers could build better, more relevant, and more ethical AI — if given the opportunity and support.
We started with a small team of five, working out of a co-working space in Kilimani. Our first project was a crop yield prediction model for a cooperative of maize farmers in Nakuru. That project taught us the power of co-design — when we listened to farmers, we learned about soil variability, rainfall patterns, and the importance of SMS alerts in areas with low smartphone penetration. The model worked, and word spread.
Today, we're a team of 45+ specialists operating from eight hubs across the continent: Nairobi, Dakar, Johannesburg, Cairo, Lagos, Kigali, Accra, and Tunis. We've delivered over 80 projects across fintech, agritech, health, telecom, and public sector. But our approach remains the same: listen deeply, co-design solutions, and empower local teams to carry the work forward.
What we stand for
Our principles guide every project, every partnership, every line of code.
Community-first
We co-design solutions with the people who will use them. No parachute projects.
Data sovereignty
We believe African data should stay in Africa, under African control. We build accordingly.
Sustainable impact
We measure what matters: long-term outcomes, not just outputs.
